Lefty closer George Sherrill has been everything the Orioles hoped for and more this season as he was part of the very impressive haul from the Mariners for Erik Bedard. Sherrill has pitched in 40 games (0 starts) for the Orioles this season and he is 2-3 with 27 saves, a 3.62 ERA and a 1.26 WHIP. Sherrill has been a little bit wild walking 20 batters in only 37.1 innings this season but he also has whiffed 38 batters showing that his stuff is good enough to work out of trouble.

Daniel Cabrera has been outstanding in May for the Baltimore Orioles

Daniel Cabrera has tightened his control this May and the results have been outstanding. He has started 4 games this month and he is 3-1 with a 2.67 ERA and a 0.89 WHIP. He has only walked 3 batters in 30.1 innings and that is awesome for him. If Cabrera keeps throwing strikes he will win a lot of games because he has nasty stuff. He has now started 10 games this season for the Orioles and he is 5-1 with a 3.48 ERA and a 1.17 WHIP.

The Orioles didn’t have high hopes for Brian Burres going into this season but he has really been impressive so far. Burres has pitched in 6 games (5 starts) for the Orioles this season and he is 3-2 with a 2.87 ERA and a 1.28 WHIP. It’s doubtful that Burres can keep pitching like he currently is but the Orioles can hope.

24-year old righty reliever Randor Bierd is off to a good start to his major league career. The Orioles snapped Bierd off the roster of the Detroit Tigers’ in the Rule 5 Draft last winter and they are looking really smart so far this year. Bierd has pitched in 7 games (0 starts) for the Orioles this year and he is 0-0 with a 0.00 ERA and a 0.95 WHIP. If Bierd keeps pitching well the Orioles will likely give him more responsibility in close ball games.

The Baltimore Orioles have a couple of standout pitchers

Erik Bedard and Jeremy Guthrie have both been outstanding in the rotation for the Orioles this season.  Bedard is 7-4 with a 3.40 ERA and a 1.13 WHIP so far this season.  Bedard has been bringing the heat as he is leading the American League in strikeouts with 149 in 121.1 innings pitched.  Bedard has never had a complete season of pitching well at the major league level so the Orioles have their fingers crossed.  Guthrie was stolen off of waivers from the Cleveland Indians this season and he has been outstanding for the Orioles.  He is only 4-2 (because of the weak O’s offense) with a 2.74 ERA and a 0.91 WHIP this season.  Guthrie has great stuff and he’s been very difficult for opponents to hit off of as he has only allowed 75 hits in 102 innings this season.
