The Orioles have released 29-year old switch hitting outfielder Joey Gathright. Gathright played in 61 games for the O’s in AAA-ball last year and he was 40 of 216 (.185 avg, .477 OPS) with 25 runs scored, 0 homers, 7 RBIs and 12 stolen bases. This is not much of a loss for the Orioles as Gathright was being overmatched in AAA. Speed is his best asset but you can’t steal first base.

26-year old righty swinging 1B/OF Nolan Reimold played in 29 games for the Orioles earlier this year and he was 17 of 83 (.205 avg, .639 OPS) with 7 runs scored, 2 homers and 10 RBIs. He was then sent to AAA and he hasn’t being playing any better in the minors. Reimold has played in 52 games in AAA-ball this year and he is 39 of 190 (.205 avg, .611 OPS) with 21 runs scored, 6 homers and 19 RBIs. Despite a possible fire sale I don’t see the Orioles calling Reimold back to Baltimore until he starts to show something in the minors.

Blogged under General, Front Page, The Minors, Bloglockers by chinmusic on Friday 2 July 2010 at 10:12 am

23-year old lefty starting pitcher Zach Britton is off to a outstanding start for the Orioles this season. He has pitched in 16 games (15 starts) in AA+AAA-ball this season and he is 7-3 with a 2.32 ERA and a 1.15 WHIP. Britton has only given up 79 hits in 93 innings this season as he is missing a lot of bats. Britton has now pitched in 94 games (92 starts) in his minor league career in which he is 34-24 with a 3.07 ERA and a 1.24 WHIP. Britton was the O’s #3 rated prospect heading into this season according to Baseball America and he appears to be on the fast track to Baltimore.

Joel Guzman is playing well in AA for the Baltimore Orioles

Blogged under General, Front Page, The Minors, Bloglockers by chinmusic on Saturday 5 June 2010 at 9:04 pm

25-year old righty swinging 3B Joel Guzman is playing well in AA for the O’s this year. He has played in 49 games this season and he is 49 of 189 (.259 avg, .851 OPS) with 33 runs scored, 12 homers, 36 RBIs and 4 stolen bases. This is Guzman’s ninth year in the minor leagues already as he has played in 933 games in which he is 914 of 3,456 (.264 avg, .762 OPS) with 462 runs scored, 130 homers, 538 RBIs and 50 stolen bases. He last played in the majors in 2007 with the Devil Rays. He has played in 24 games in his major league career and he is 13 of 56 (.232 avg, .628 OPS) with 7 runs scored and 7 RBIs. Guzman could get a chance later this season if the Orioles have a firesale (which is likely) and he keeps playing well.

Josh Bell is biding his time in AAA for the Baltimore Orioles

Blogged under General, Front Page, The Minors, Bloglockers by chinmusic on Thursday 13 May 2010 at 12:17 pm

23-year old righty swinging 3B Josh Bell came to the Orioles from the Dodgers last summer in the George Sherrill trade. He is the O’s #2 prospect according to Baseball America coming into this season. Bell has played in 32 games in AAA-ball this season and he is 32 of 125 (.256 avg, .747 OPS) with 17 runs scored, 6 homers and 21 RBIs. But he still has some work to do with his swing as he has also whiffed 35 times this year. Bell has now played in 447 games in his six years in the minors and he is 470 of 1,640 (.287 avg, .834 OPS) with 256 runs scored, 62 homers, 263 RBIs and 22 stolen bases. If the Orioles raise the White Flag in July and trade Miguel Tejada then Bell could get the call to the show then to make his major league debut. But the Orioles are under no pressure to rush Bell so they likely won’t bring him up until he is ready.
