Corey Patterson has been a godsend for the Baltimore Orioles

30-year old lefty swinging outfielder Corey Patterson is making the most of his chance the Orioles have given him. He has played in 47 games for the Orioles this year and he is 52 of 187 (.278 avg, .715 OPS) with 26 runs scored, 4 homers, 14 RBIs and 16 stolen bases. Patterson will likely go back to the bench when Luke Scott comes off the D.L. but if the Orioles start trading players he could get another chance to play. As for now though Patterson has been one of the best offensive players for the O’s since they called him up and for that he deserves a tip of the hat because they weren’t expecting that much from him.

Ty Wigginton is the lone All-Star for the Baltimore Orioles

32-year old righty swinging 1B/2B/3B Ty Wigginton will be making his first appearance of his career in the All-Star Game. Wigginton has played in 75 games for the Orioles so far this season and he was 67 of 267 (.251 avg, .790 OPS) with 30 runs scored, 14 homers and 42 RBIs. Wigginton is kind of lucky that every team gets at least one player on the All-Star Team because the Orioles don’t really deserve to have one. Wigginton has been the best player on the O’s so he deserves to go.

Scott Moore is playing solid baseball for the Baltimore Orioles

26-year old lefty swinging infielder Scott Moore is really playing well for the Baltimore Orioles so far this season. Moore has played in 26 games this season for the Orioles and he is 15 of 54 (.278 avg, .711 OPS) with 5 runs scored, 2 homers, 7 RBIs and 3 stolen bases. Moore’s versatility will help him continue to get playing time for the O’s as he can handle 1B, 2B or 3B defensively. His emergence likely led to the Orioles getting rid of Garrett Atkins and that’s a good thing. The Orioles hope he can keep up the good work.

Luke Scott is swinging a hot stick for the Baltimore Orioles

32-year old lefty swinging OF/DH Luke Scott has added 1B to his array of positions that he can play this weekend. One thing is for certain is that Scott should be playing everyday somewhere for the Orioles due to his big bat from the left side. Scott has played in 36 games this season for the Orioles and he is 35 of 124 (.282 avg, .915 OPS) with 19 runs scored, 9 homers and 20 RBIs. Scott has the most pure power of all of the Orioles hitters and I think he could hit 30+ homers and drive in 100+ runs if the O’s just played him every single day.

Ty Wigginton is dominating at the plate for the Baltimore Orioles

Ty Wigginton is playing some of the best baseball of his 9-year career this season for the Baltimore Orioles, and is on a current 7-game hit-streak.  Wigginton, who has never hit better than .285 in a season, is currently hitting .320 with 12 HRs and 24 RBIs.  He is on pace to easily surpass his career-high of 24 HRs, as his 12 homers this season are good enough for second best in all of baseball so far.  What is even more impressive about his current power surge is that he has already had three multi-homerun games this season.  Wigginton has been seeing the ball extremely well all season, especially lately.  In his current 7-game hit-streak, the last four have been multi-hit games.  Unfortunately for the Orioles, Wigginton is one of the few things they can be happy with so far this season.  They are already deep at the bottom of the AL East standings and other than Wigginton their offense has been stagnant.  Nick Markakis and Miguel Tejada have been decent, but the Orioles need to give their pitching more run support.  Guys like Kevin Millwood, Jeremy Gunthrie, and Brian Matusz have been pitching pretty well this season, but have been getting very little run-support.  More guys need to step up like Wigginton is, or the Orioles season will just keep getting uglier.
