The Baltimore Orioles don’t appear ready to go all in to compete in the A.L. East quite yet. Here is a look at the new guys for the Orioles in 2012 so far:

In the field: The Orioles wanted a better backup catcher in 2012, so they went out and dealt for Taylor Teagarden of the Rangers. He will be Matt Wieters’ caddy in 2012. The Orioles also wanted a platoon partner for Nolan Reimold in LF and that is why they signed lefty swinging Endy Chavez. The O’s also dealt with the A’s for Jai Miller and he will get a shot to win a bench job with the Orioles this spring.

On the mound: The Orioles signed righty reliever Darren O’Day to help out in the bullpen. Then they went to the Far East to sign three pitchers. Tsuyoshi Wada and Wei-Ying Chen are going to have really good shots to make the Orioles’ rotation this spring. Lefty reliever Yoshihiro Doi is going to have an uphill battle this spring and he could start the 2012 season in the minors.

Overall: The Orioles still have the look of a last place team.
