21-year old righty starting pitcher Chris Tillman was the Orioles’ #2 prospect heading into this season according to Baseball America. Tillman was part of the amazing haul for Erik Bedard when the O’s traded him to Seattle. Tillman started the year in AAA and he started 18 games there in which he was 8-6 with a 2.70 ERA and a 1.15 WHIP. The Orioles then decided to bring him up along with some other young pitchers when they fell too far behind in the playoff race to really compete for a spot in them. Tillman has started 11 games for the Orioles this season and he is 2-4 with a 4.71 ERA and a 1.49 WHIP. Tillman has allowed 71 hits in 63 innings for the Orioles but this was a learning experience for him. With the stuff Tillman has he should win a spot in the 2010 rotation next spring.

23-year old switch hitting catcher Matt Wieters and 25-year old righty swinging OF Nolan Reimold appear to be in the majors to stay. Wieters was the Orioles’ #1 rated prospect heading into this season according to Baseball America. He has played in 84 games for the Orioles and he is 86 for 305 (.282 avg, .729 OPS) with 30 runs scored, 7 homers and 36 RBIs. You have to think that Wieters will hit better next season as he adjusts to the majors. Nolan Reimold was the Orioles’ #5 rated prospect heading into this season according to Baseball America. Reimold has played in 104 games for the O’s this season and he is 100 for 358 (.279 avg, .821 OPS) with 49 runs scored, 15 homers, 45 RBIs and 8 stolen bases. Reimold has huge power potential and he will likely go to spring training as the starting LF. The Orioles were smart to call up the kids and at least give O’s fans a glimpse of a bright future ahead.

24-year old lefty swinging outfielder Felix Pie is starting to play up to his ability. Adam Jones was injured recently and the O’s decided to give Pie a chance to prove himself and he’s running with it. Pie has played in 92 games for the Orioles this season and he is 57 for 216 (.264 avg, .768 OPS) with 36 runs scored, 8 homers and 25 RBIs. He is finally showing off his all-around game and the Orioles might give him a bigger role next season if he finishes this year strong.

Get a good look at 37-year old righty swinging Melvin Mora as the Orioles will likely let him go in the off-season. He ran his mouth a little too much about playing time while he was not playing well. Mora has played in 111 games this season for the Orioles and he is 106 for 402 (.264 avg, .681 OPS) with 39 runs scored, 7 homers, 42 RBIs and 3 steals. Mora was excellent for the Orioles last season as he hit .285 (.825 OPS) with 77 runs scored, 23 homers and 104 RBIs. The Orioles will likely be moving in a new direction starting next season and going with youth which should be enough to push Mora out the door.
