The Orioles have claimed 25-year old lefty reliever David Davidson off waivers from the Florida Marlins. Davidson only pitched in 1 game for the Marlins this season and it was a disaster. He worked 1 inning for them allowing 4 hits, 4 walks and 5 earned runs. Davidson has also pitched in 13 games (0 starts) in AAA-ball this season and he is 0-1 with a 3.00 ERA and a 1.00 WHIP. Lefties are hard to come by so this was worth the chance for the Orioles.

UPDATE: Davidson has been returned to the Marlins after it was revealed through a physical that he had a shoulder injury.

The Orioles have placed righty starting pitcher Koji Uehara on the 15-day disabled list with a sore hamstring. Uehara has started 9 games this season for the Orioles and he is 2-3 with a 4.09 ERA and a 1.40 WHIP. The Orioles have recalled their #16 rated prospect heading into this season according to Baseball America….right hander David Hernandez who will replace Uehara in the rotation. The 24-year Hernandez has started 8 games in AAA-ball this season and he is 3-1 with a 2.91 ERA and a 1.06 WHIP. He has whiffed 60 batters while only allowing 33 hits in 43 1/3 innings in the minors this year. It’s about time that the Orioles let some of the kids get a chance to show what they can do. They should have done this from the start of the season instead of going with stiffs like Adam Eaton and Mark Hendrickson in the starting rotation.

The Baltimore Orioles place Lou Montanez on the D.L.

The Orioles have lost outfielder Lou Montanez until September after he recently had surgery to reattach torn ligaments in his right thumb. This is a shame as Montanez was about to get a opportunity to really show what he could do before his injury cut his season short. He has played in 18 games this season for the Orioles and he was 10 for 49 (.204 avg, .620 OPS) with 4 runs scored, 1 homer and 6 RBIs.

25-year old righty swinging outfielder Nolan Reimold is staking a claim on the starting LF job for the Orioles. He was the #5 prospect in the Orioles’ minor league system heading into this season according to Baseball America. He showed why in AAA-ball before his call-up playing in 31 games and going 43 for 109 (.394 avg, 1.228 OPS) with 21 runs scored, 9 homers, 27 RBIs and 6 stolen bases. Since his recall he has played in 9 games for the Orioles in which he is 10 for 36 (.278 avg, .769 OPS) with 3 runs scored, 2 homers and 4 RBIs. With Lou Montanez needing surgery on his thumb and Felix Pie playing awful still, Reimold will have a chance to keep the starting job in LF as long as he continues to hit the baseball.

The Orioles have released righty starting pitcher Adam Eaton and with good cause! Eaton started 8 games for the Orioles this season and he was 2-5 with a 8.56 ERA and a 1.83 WHIP. Eaton allowed a stunning 9 homers and 56 hits in only 41 innings pitched for the Orioles this season. It almost doesn’t matter who replaces Eaton because it will likely be a HUGE UPGRADE!
